18th Century Bronze Cannon

18th Century Bronze Cannon

A lovely and interesting little job landed in our workshop recently: a customer brought us a small bronze cannon in excellent condition. He needed us to make a new carriage for it.

Our furniture maker loved the job and spent time researching the kind of carriage that was needed for this kind of cannon. After discussions with the customer, they agreed on a suitable design made out of a nice cherry timber.

We were desperate to make wheels, recoil rope mounts and iron brackets to hold the trunnions in place but we weren’t allowed… 😒

The customer was delighted and informed us that the cannon now sits proudly in the sitting room for all to admire, as opposed to gathering dust under the dresser where it used to be.
