This 1930s chest of drawers was brought to us by a customer who wanted to give it a new lease of life. It had a few structural issues such as open joints, and some of the original handles were missing.

The whole cabinet also looked tired and worn, and it needed to be cleaned up and refinished.

After regluing the base which was very loose, we concentrated our efforts on cleaning up the chest. It was then dyed and lacquered to highlight its natural elegance.

We also did the inside of the drawers.

The customer also got some new handles which we fitted to the drawers. They matched the cabinet perfectly.

This little job is an effective illustration of how a simple cleaning can completely transform a cherished but worn piece of furniture into something that looks as good as new. This particular piece found its way back into the customer’s home, but in a prime position in the bedroom rather than in the darkest corner of the downstairs hallway.
