How we restored a stunning vintage Ercol coffee table by recreating two new stretchers and giving it its glorious finish back.
This delightful, iconic coffee table has been professionally, cleaned, refinished, and polished in our workshop, and has been returned to its former glory with no surface damage. The top is made from beautifully figured elm with turned beech legs and stretchers.
Two of the stretchers had snapped off and couldn’t be saved. We therefore recreated them by turning some pre-drilled beech blanks following a plywood template.
Once cleaned, the beautiful elm top appeared to be flawless. So we finished it with a satin lacquer to enhance its grain.
