Restoration of a sad little burr walnut and marquetry chess table. The original shellac finish has dried, faded and crackled, lots of missing veneer, marquetry banding and draws that are seized up. After complete dismantling, surface repairs and refinishing its good to take its place back at home.

Incredibly dry surface and cupped boards

Lots of chipped and missing veneers

Some of the veneer pieces making up the chess pattern will need replacing due to severe chips or distortion

Burr walnut edging is missing, especially around edges

The original shellac/French polished finish is dry, cracked and little more than powder in places

In addition to everything else, there are a couple of shallow burns to contend with.

Dismantle all the components, remove original finish and repair surface damage.

Complete with four coats of lacquer and buffing to a high sheen
