Original condition
This charming little gateleg table in beech wood arrived in need of serious care. Its finely turned legs and elegant proportions hinted at its beauty, but the tabletop and leaves were separated, the finish was dry, heavily stained, and worn, and the framework was loose and damaged in places. Layers of old paint obscured the original timber, and it was clear that the table required careful attention to bring it back to its full potential. Despite its condition, the table had a character all its own, a promise of elegance and practicality once restored.

Our restoration journey
The restoration was a detailed and meticulous process. Each board of the tabletop was carefully cleaned, squared, and prepared for regluing, using secret dowels to ensure long-lasting strength. The framework was dismantled, with old adhesive and grime removed before being expertly reglued and clamped to restore stability.

Multiple layers of paint were stripped away with care, revealing the natural beauty of the original timber beneath. The timber was then gently coloured to enhance its warm tones and sealed to protect it for years of use. Every detail, from the turned legs to the folding leaves, was given attention, combining traditional techniques with careful craftsmanship to preserve both function and character.

The finished table
The result is a beautifully restored little table that balances charm, elegance, and practicality. Its smooth, warm timber surface now shows off the original beauty of the beech wood, while the frame is solid and sturdy. The folding leaves operate effortlessly, and the table’s refined proportions make it ideal for both small and larger spaces.
Once a neglected piece, it has been returned to life, ready to be used and admired. This table is a perfect example of how careful restoration can revive the character of a classic piece, combining history, craftsmanship, and function in one beautiful furniture item.
