This Heals oak bentwood lounge chair is a striking example of 1930s design, featured in the famous Economy with Difference catalogue of 1930. Its elegant, flowing bentwood frame and gently curved arms showcase the craftsmanship of the period, while the Art Deco-inspired lines give it a timeless sophistication.
When the chair arrived in our workshop, it was very much worn: the original finish was gone, scuff marks were visible across the timber, and some of the metal fittings were missing. Despite this, the chair’s graceful lines and Art Deco-inspired style were clear, promising a stunning piece once fully restored.

The restoration journey
Restoring this chair required careful attention to detail to respect its original character. The worn timber was gently cleaned, polished, and stabilised, preserving the natural oak tones. Missing metal fittings were carefully replaced with period-appropriate replacements, and scuffs and wear marks were addressed while retaining the vintage charm. Every element, from the curved arms to the bentwood frame, was treated with precision, combining traditional techniques with expert craftsmanship to bring the chair back to life.
The result is a beautifully restored Heals bentwood lounge chair, balancing comfort, elegance, and historical authenticity. The oak now gleams with its natural warmth, the bentwood curves are smooth and inviting, and the Art Deco lines shine through. Fully functional and visually striking, this lounge chair is a perfect example of how careful restoration can revive a piece of design history, ready to be enjoyed for decades to come.
